Cyclic Progesterone Side Effects

Hi Dr. Briden!

I wanted to ask you a question regarding progesterone (100mg per day, days 14-28 of cycle) for estrogen dominance and PCOS…..

My last cycle length was 53 days, assumed anovulatory, and I started taking progesterone on the 14th day of my current cycle as instructed. I’m now on day 23 of the same cycle (so day 9 of progesterone), and I’m experiencing heavy spotting. Is that kind of irregular or breakthrough bleeding to be expected within the first few months of use with progesterone?

I’ve contacted my doctor but just wanted to hear from you if possible as I admire and respect your work greatly!

yes, progesterone can cause spotting with initial use and that's okay.
