Continuous pill with no break

Post by m_a_a »

I understand it's not necessary for women to have a withdrawal bleed while taking the pill, so they can skip the placebo ones and keep taking the active ones continuously. But my memory is a bit foggy regarding something I thought I read somewhere once. It said if you don't let the uterus shed its lining every once in a while, it's not good because of getting a build-up or something? Is that true?

No, that’s actually a myth. The way the pill works, it keeps your uterine lining thin, so there’s nothing building up. A withdrawal bleed isn’t a real period, it’s just a response to the break from hormones. Plenty of people take the pill continuously without issues, but if you start spotting a lot, your body might just need a short break now and then.
