At 46 I have been through the stage of heavy /flooding periods and now they are much lighter. I have had constant migraines and they are now at a manageable level. I get overheated at times but the new one for me is quick sharp unbearable back pain and cramping that lasts a few hours on the first day of my period. It is always on the left, every month and the same side I had an ectopic six years ago.
If I cant get the pain management under control the next step to try is some sort of contraceptive to put my ovary to sleep for a couple of years and then see if I am through the other side. My concern is the contraceptive and any other effects it may have. I would prefer to go through to menopause naturally but understand sometimes other methods are required. Has anyone experienced this before?

Has your doctor said anything as to the possible cause of the pain? Does your ultrasound report say anything about adenomyosis?

Hi Lara,
No, at this stage no mention of adenomyosis (I thought that was related to heavy periods) and ultrasound only showed a 15mm corpus luteum cyst which I understand is normal for start of period.
