Hi there,
This question relates to the The Pros and Cons of the Copper IUD blog post.
The post mentions "bad for the vaginal microbiome". I'm looking to understand what this means, and whether it could mean that using the copper IUD could lead to changes in cervical fluid even months after having the copper IUD taken out (more difficulty identifying the changes in texture throughout the month).
Thanks!

Copper IUD - bad for the vaginal microbiome
Re: Copper IUD - bad for the vaginal microbiome
good question. I discuss this in more detail in my article for MindBodyGreen: Is Your IUD Disrupting Your Vaginal Microbiome?
Basically, a copper IUD can increase the risk of bacterial vaginosis (BV), but only for as long as it's in place. The issue should resolve upon removal.
Happy to have others chime in here!
