Mirena and progesterone

Post by Late40s »

Hi,
I am 47. I have a mirena (for heavy bleeding), this is my 2nd mirena and they work well for me.
Sleep has now become my main issue. My doctor has given me amitripyline 10mg for sleep which works well. I have taken this for 18 months. But after reading your book I now know I should have progesterone capsules rather than taking amitripyline.
My question is: can I take utrogestan as well as having a mirena. If so what dosage at night for sleep?
Thank you

Yes, it's generally fine to take progesterone capsules (Prometrium) together with a hormonal IUD.
