Hi Lara,
I have a hormonal IUD and have noticed high androgen side effects like jaw line acne, weight gain and thinning hair since it was put in (as well as more typical perimenopausal symptoms like insomnia and irritability). My doctor thinks my symptoms relate more to perimenopause than androgen excess and has prescribed me Estrogel. I asked about including progesterone as well but she thinks the progestin in IUD is enough to support the uterus. After reading The Hormone Repair Manual, I’m reluctant to take estrogen without progesterone and from your experience it sounds like it’s Progesterone that will help ease my symptoms which are mainly sleeplessness, weight gain and acne rather than estrogen. What are your thoughts on taking estrogen alone for perimenopause with hormonal IUD?
Many thanks
