Re: Progesterone only therapy

Hi Mel. It is a minefield for sure. I´m 51 now and started at 45 with hormonal migranes around day 26-28 & heavy periods (not as heavy as yours sound though) which cyclical utrogestan really helped. Then around 1 year ago migranes worsened days 4-12 of my cycle and I just didn´t feel right - fog...

Re: Progesterone only therapy

Hello, I think it is a standard protocol is to prescribe HRT like that if you are still having periods BUT to me if you are having heavy extended periods it sounds like you have more estrogen in relation to progesterone already. This website may have some useful info: https://www.cemcor.ubc.ca/ I´m ...

200mg utrogestan continously?

I understand women who are still having periods are advised to take utrogestan cyclically. Women who have stopped periods can take continuous Utrogestan/HRT. I have been advised that 100mg continuously is also fine for my age, 51. I now have terrible insomnia all month long, still having erratic per...

Re: Worsening Insomnia

Thank you for your considered reply, I really appreciate it. I started taking Utrogestan about 5-6 years ago when I suffered estrogen dominance symtoms. I never had adverse effects...in fact I loved it and could tolerate a high dose on the migrane days. I believe my estrogen levels are finally dropp...

Worsening Insomnia

I´m 51 and late perimenapause. I have a handle on the migranes (sometimes!) but now my main problem in insomnia. Weeks and weeks of worsening insomnia. I´ve tried melatonin with valerian & even my husbands medication but it doesn´t help. I have a 12 & 14 year old at home and work so I need s...

Re: Out of control cravings for sweets luteal phase

Thanks Lara. I´ll try a low dose estrogen patch all month long, rather than just for 2 weeks and see how I get on.

The cravings drive me crazy!

I think I´ll have to re read your book as I´m getting more symptoms the older I get.

Re: Migranes in follicular phase perimenapause

Thanks for your insight too! It is helpful to know the stategy of someone else with roughly the same symptoms.

Can I ask you a couple of questions? What dose of estogen patch were you given? Was it to be used everyday? How much progesterone did your doc recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Migranes in follicular phase perimenapause

"you don't find applying the estriol cream or patch for 'spot' treatment aggravates the migraine with the drop after? " - Ah - I see what you mean - I have no idea why my head isn´t screaming with the subsequent drop!! "Also, did you find your migraines were a bit increased when you s...

Re: Migranes in follicular phase perimenapause

Hi Jen, I´ve only started the estrogen the last couple of months but at the moment I´m using the patch for 14 days to cover the follicular phase and then progesterone for 14 days....if my period doesn´t come I´ll use the progesterone for a little longer say another 4-7 days but 1 pill per night. If ...
