Hi there - I have PCOS and use Inositol, but am considering the IUD as a method of contraception (I have never been on the pill). Do you continue to use Inositol with the IUD inserted, to continue to treat the PCOS symptoms...or is the IUD alone enough to control the PCOS symptoms.
Thank you.
Inositol and IUD contraceptive: seperate or together?
Re: Inositol and IUD contraceptive: seperate or together?
First, the hormonal IUD does not exactly control PCOS symptoms... It can prevent the abnormal buildup of the uterine lining, but that's it. It does nothing for androgen excess (e.g. acne, hirsutism, weight gain). In fact, because levonorgestrel (the medication in the hormonal IUD) is androgenic (testosterone-like), it can worsen androgen symptoms.
But in answer to your question, inositol can be combined with the hormonal IUD.
