Hemorrhagic Corpus Luteum

I had an MRI of the pelvis with contrast to diagnose endometriosis due to severe pain in each period. They did not find endometriosis but they did see a hemorrhagic corpus luteum, my gynecologist says that this blood can cause pain due to the irritation it generates in the place where it falls... does anyone have information on this? what causes it?
